The Fly is a contemporary instrument descending from the Tank Drum, which was invented by the percussionist Felle Vega, in 2007.
Fly Drum belongs to the Idiophone percussion family (instruments that create sound through the vibration of the material itself, without the need for strings, membranes, or an external resonator), it does not require any particular technique.
The number of slats or "tongues" equals the number of notes it can produce. You can use mallets or your hands to produce sound.
For beginners: We recommend starting to play with the included Mallets and having a look at the Songbook that comes with your Fly Drum.

HOW TO START PLAYING IN UNDER 2 MINS
Step 1.
Get ready, it's time to fly!
Place Fly Drum in front of you and using the mallets or your fingers, tap the center of each tongue/key.
Hear all the different sounds. We recommend starting from the bottom upward. 👂
Go around the drum doing this to get familiar with the sounds you like best. Here is where you start connecting with Fly Drum.
Step 2.
Now, tap the keys that you liked always in the same order and repeatedly... You just created your first melody! 👏
It's time to explore the intensity of those sounds by tapping them harder or smoother, to get stronger or calmer sounds.
For a higher note, strike closer to the edge of the tongue; for a lower note, strike closer to the center.
Step 3.
When it feels natural for you to play the melody you just created, add one more note and continue repeating as before.
The idea is to broaden the set of notes focusing on the ones you already master.
Have fun exploring all the possibilities of this unique and relaxing instrument!
